I’m thinking of buying a 2012 manual 1.6 TDCi Ford Focus station wagon. The car has 235,000 km on it. Is it worth going for? The owner seems to have taken decent care of it, but not perfect.
What’s the asking price?

The seller wants $3,500 for it.

That seems fair if the car’s condition checks out.
What do you mean by ‘decent care’? Also, which engine version is it? If it’s the Econetic, you might have Bosch injectors instead of VDO piezo ones, which are usually more reliable.
If it’s rust-free, runs well, and the interior isn’t trashed, I’d say it’s worth a look. A lot of these have serious rust issues, so make sure to inspect underneath for any hidden spots.
Does it meet your needs, and how does the price compare with similar cars in your area? Also, how much driving do you plan to do with it each year?
If you can, go for the 2.0 TDCi version instead. You’ll get more power without losing fuel efficiency. The 1.6 versions often have DPF issues. My 2.0 has almost 360k, and it’s still going strong, aside from the occasional transmission trouble.
I wouldn’t risk it.
Nope, not worth it.
