New USPS trucks… are they made by Ford?

Tell that to the ones that come in with the waste gate rattling apart at 120k.

That sounds more like the 1.0 or 1.5 engines, not the 2.0.

The 1.0s don’t last long enough to have turbo issues, and the 1.5s have other problems before turbos even become an issue. The 2.0 at least makes it long enough for the turbo to act up.

@Roger
Yeah, I’ve seen a lot of those issues too.

EcoBoost engines are tougher than people think. I’ve driven them for delivery jobs and they keep going even when they’re not in the best shape.

Ford can make great engines, but when they mess up, it’s usually some weird oversight.

@Jayden
The 2.0s have generally been reliable. It’s the 1.0 that’s notorious. But still, it’s odd to use a turbo for slow, stop-and-go driving.

Companies like Ford and Freightliner sell chassis that others, like school bus and RV makers, turn into complete vehicles. They come with frames, engines, and basic parts.

This is a bit different though. Oshkosh buys major components from Ford, like engines and interiors, but builds the rest themselves.

The current mail trucks are based on old S10s.

I mostly see ones on Ford platforms around here, but yeah, the classic look is the S10-based ones.

All Grumman LLVs are S10 underneath.

@Christine01
The Utilimaster FFV is built on a Ford Explorer base. I see way more FFVs here than LLVs.

I’ve only seen one FFV in my life.

They look similar, but the LLV has a narrower front wheelbase. Easy to tell apart if you know what to look for.

@Christine01
I wasn’t just talking about LLVs specifically. Not all USPS trucks are S10-based.

It’s a joint effort between Ford and Oshkosh, kind of like how Ford engines are used in motorhomes.

The dash looks just like a Maverick’s.

Engine and transmission are the same too. Looks like they just used parts from an existing vehicle to keep things simple.

Perfect setup for delivery work.

Wait until you find out what the FFVs are based on… rhymes with Exploder.
