Hey everyone, I’m new here! I’m planning to get my first truck and could use some advice from folks who know their stuff.
I’m torn between a 2022/23 Raptor with around 20k miles or a brand new 2024 Ram 2500 Cummins Laramie. I know they’re really different trucks, but I’m thinking about long-term value, reliability, and cost. Diesel trucks are powerful and have better fuel economy, but I know the maintenance can get pricey.
This will be my daily ride, and I drive about 30 miles daily with some long trips here and there. What would you all recommend?
I have a ‘22 Raptor as my personal truck and a ‘20 Ram 3500 diesel for work. For daily driving, I’d go with the Raptor any day. It’s way more fun to drive and super comfy. If you’re hauling a lot, then maybe the Ram is better. But for me, the Raptor wins on comfort and handling. Mine’s at 23k miles with no issues so far.
Had a Grand Cherokee that gave me so many issues… costly repairs, then the transmission blew. So I was back in the market for a truck and looked at all brands. I always debated gas vs. diesel, but the newer diesels seem like a headache with emissions stuff and extra maintenance. Unless you’re hauling, I’d say skip the diesel.
Ended up getting a 2022 Raptor with 21k miles… drives better and has a much nicer interior in my opinion.
I recently traded my 2022 RAM 2500 Limited for a 2024 Raptor, and I’m glad I did. I don’t tow much anymore, and after my RAM started having issues with the EGR and parts being hard to get, I made the switch. If you don’t tow regularly, the Raptor is just more enjoyable to drive. Can’t say much about Ford’s long-term durability yet, but so far, so good!
I’m driving a ‘23 Raptor daily. Had a couple of minor warranty fixes, but overall, it’s solid. I drove a 2014 before this one with no issues either. My friend has an older RAM 2500, which is a great diesel if you’re set on that, but I’d still go with the Raptor.
I’ve driven Raptors as my daily for almost 10 years now. There’s just nothing else like it for daily comfort and handling. The suspension is amazing, and it’s quick for its size. Every time I think about getting a second car, I end up just sticking with the Raptor. The fuel economy on my 37-spec isn’t bad either… around 16.9 MPG for highway driving. That’s good enough for me.
If you’re not going to put it through heavy work, avoid the newer diesels. They have a lot of issues now. I’ve got an older 5.9 Cummins that’s super reliable, but the newer models aren’t the same. Ask around in the diesel forums, but for lighter use, most will tell you to go with gas.
I picked up a 2021 Raptor with the 37 Performance Package as my daily driver this summer, and it’s the best truck I’ve had. I get around 16.9 MPG on the highway, and I’m happy with it.
