New Ranger for 45k… Is this real life?

Just feeling old and grumpy. I got my new base Ranger for $12,700 back in 2002… great truck. Then traded it for a new 2012 Scion xB for $16,500, which I still have and love. Now even the Maverick is too pricey!

You think that’s bad? Check out the new F-150 prices.

At least you get $8K-$10K off on F-150s with discounts.

Let me jump in… I bought a 2005 F-150 in 2004 for $13,800! Now, I can’t even get a Nissan Mirage for that.

Well, that’s because Nissan doesn’t make a Mirage.

@Beau
Or do they…?

I swear, I keep seeing one in the distance, but it vanishes when I get close.

Wow, that’s a steal! I got a 2004 F-150 XLT Supercab, and it was in the low $30s.

@Gianna
XLTs are solid. Mine was just an XL, rear-wheel drive, vinyl seats, manual everything except the auto trans. Even had the dealership install cruise control buttons I bought from eBay when they were fixing the airbag recall. Simpler times!

@Benjamin
That’s awesome. I’ve got a ‘98 Ranger XLT, manual everything, smallest cab, smallest engine, no A/C. It’s still a cool little truck.

An XLT without A/C? That’s wild!

@Benjamin
Yeah, it’s not bad though. Wouldn’t mind 4WD and a bit more cab space, though.

@Gianna
Got a 2001 XLT SuperCrew with 5.4L for $26k out the door. Had some negative equity, but with rebates and my Xplan pricing, it worked out.

@Gianna
I bought a 2002 F-150 sport, RWD for $13k. That truck ran over 350k miles. Loved it!

The cheapest 2005 F-150 was about $21k. Did you do something special to get it that low?

@Aspen
This thread feels like a look back at how it used to be. Truck prices today just hurt. Might end up buying a Mustang GT instead of the truck I actually need.

Because people keep buying them.

Yep, and I’m about to be one of those people… The 2.7L engine is calling my name.

Just don’t call it a sexy beast in front of the salesperson. They’ll know you’re ready to buy, and you’ll lose your bargaining power. Also, the 2.3L engine is no slouch either.

@Johnstone1
Oh, totally! I have the 2.3L in my 2019, and it’s a beast.
