It’s a 25-year-old truck, so there’s probably a lot you can fix or upgrade!

Definitely! I’m into older vehicles and know the basics of keeping them running. Just curious if there’s anything specific I should keep an eye on.
I have a very similar ‘99 model, and it’s been super reliable. Mine was in much better shape when I got it, though. Still, it’d be a fun project!

It may look rough, but it’s actually been well cared for. The oil filter is from September, which is when it got wrecked. Air filter’s brand new, trans fluid looks great, and things like tires, ball joints, and bushings are fresh. Only leak is from the oil cooler line, which should be an easy fix. Feeling good about it so far!

Sounds like you’re on the right track. I love working on mine because the parts are easy to find, and most things are simple to fix. Good luck with it!

Thanks! I’ll share updates here as I go. Planning a junkyard trip tomorrow!
Maybe buy another one and combine them to make a really solid truck.

Another angle
I totally get it. My ‘09 is not much newer than yours. I also like how simple these older trucks are to repair and the lack of unnecessary tech.
Is it a 4.0 or a 5.0? The 5.0 with the 4r70w is solid and very reliable. The 4.0 OHC with the 5r55e, though, tends to have more issues. From the pictures, I don’t see the V8 badge, so I’m guessing it’s the 4.0. Personally, I’d skip it.
Sharing a pic of a similar build I saw recently: https://placehold.co/600x400.png
