Are there any other automakers besides Ford that offer a free app-based remote start?
We’ve been driving Fords for over 15 years, and all three of our 2019+ Rangers include free remote start through the FordPass app. We live in a cold climate, so it’s been a game-changer. My wife is considering switching brands for our next family vehicle, but from what I’ve seen, most other manufacturers only offer remote start as a paid subscription after a trial period. Some are even phasing out key fob remote start to push people toward their apps.
Is Ford really the only one with free remote start through an app? Are there any other brands that offer something similar or at least a good deal?
The app is free, and I’ve been using it for six months without issues. It had some bugs in the past, and there were times it took weeks to get fixed. I’m not sure if it’s available for every Ford model, though.
I think Ford might be unique here. I bought a 2019 Ford Edge ST recently, downloaded the app, and added the vehicle without any hassle. Remote start worked right away, even though I’m the second owner of this six-year-old car. My wife also has a newer Escape, and we added both cars to our apps. It’s a great feature, and I didn’t expect it to be free.
Another great thing about Fords is the door keypad. Even if you forget your keys or phone, you can still get into the car. You can even add the keypad later if it’s not included. I use mine to pop the trunk all the time. I wish more cars came with this feature.
