I’m considering getting a 2025 Bronco, but I’m stuck deciding if 4A is worth the $10,000. To get 4A, I’d have to add the Sasquatch package on a base model or go with the Black Diamond package on a Big Bend.
I live in the Northeast where winters mean patchy ice and brown sugar snow on the roads. Do I actually need 4A for these conditions, or would 4H on the highway be enough?
Where I live, it’s -45°C with wind chill one day and +2°C the next, so the roads are solid ice. For me, 4A has been totally worth it. If I lived somewhere like Phoenix, it wouldn’t matter, but up here? Absolutely.
Honestly, 4A isn’t something you’ll need often. Just slow down and use 2H most of the time. If you want better traction, spend the money on Nokian Hakkapeliitta tires—they’ll help way more than 4A and also reduce braking distances.
I use non-studded ones. Studded tires are great if your roads are snow-covered all winter, but they’re illegal in some places. Hakkas are still the best winter tires out there.

No way 4A is worth $10k. Just get some good A/T tires for $1,500.
Fair point, I could just upgrade the tires on the base model instead.
I use 4H here in North Dakota, and it works fine at 55+ mph on icy roads. The downside is you can’t just leave it on like 4A. My girlfriend’s Bronco has 4A, and it works well, but it doesn’t function the way some people think. It’s more of a reactive system—it’s in 2H most of the time and only shifts power when the rear wheels slip.
I’ve got a 2D Big Bend in Azure Gray (the best color), and she has a 4D Sasquatch in a, uh, bold green.
