How do I reset the ambient temperature sensor?

Can anyone help me reset the ambient air temperature sensor? I tried pressing the recirculate and AC buttons for 2 seconds, then just the AC button for 3 seconds, and then the recirculate and max AC buttons for 16 seconds. I also tried clearing the error codes in Forscan, but they come back right away. I replaced the sensor and the harness under the grill, but it still didn’t work. The system thinks it’s 50 degrees outside, and the AC is blowing hot air.

Ford wants $200 to reset it, but why can’t I do it myself? Any help would be great. It’s for a 2017 F150 2.7L 2WD.

There are several techniques for resetting the ambient air temperature sensor on your 2017 F150 2.7L 2WD. First, on the HVAC panel, push and hold the A/C and Recirculate buttons simultaneously, then release them. Within two seconds, hit the A/C button again. Alternatively, to help update the sensor, drive your car at speeds more than 20 MPH for at least 5 minutes. Another alternative while driving is to simultaneously push the A/C and MAX A/C buttons for 2-3 seconds, then release and wait 1-2 minutes for the reset to finish. If these approaches do not work, you may need to inspect the wiring or connections, as even minor issues might cause problems with the sensor.

Paying $200 for a reset is ridiculous. Have you checked for any hidden fuses or relays related to the climate control system?

Sometimes, a simple reset in the vehicle’s computer system can do the trick. You could also try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes to perform a complete reset.

If none of these work, it might be worth investigating the wiring harness further. There could be a short or a break somewhere preventing the sensor from communicating correctly.
