I have got a 2016 Ford Fusion SE, and I’m looking to add remote start. Anyone know how to do this or what I would need?
Does it have push-button start? If it does, you can enable factory remote start, but you’ll need Forscan, the right OBD cable, and a key with the remote start button.
If you’ve got a regular key, it’s not gonna be as easy.

You’re probably stuck with some cheap aftermarket option, and it might make your car easier to steal.

Think I could do the same on my 1999 Ford Cougar? Winter mornings are freezing even with my heaters running. They warm it up, but once I start driving, I gotta blast the air to keep the windows clear, and it’s ice cold till the engine heats up.

Definitely. The older the car, the easier it is. The fancy security and push-button systems in newer cars are what make it tricky.

Alright, thanks! Gonna look into it and see if I can do it myself.

Yep, you can do it. Look into different brands that fit your budget and find a shop that installs them.

I put one in my 2008 Highlander last winter. It’s a bit newer than your Cougar, but still pretty basic. I used CompuStar, and it’s worked perfectly, even at -40°.

Thanks! I might try CompuStar then. Any issues with security?

No security problems so far. I don’t keep anything valuable in my car and live in an okay area, though. My building’s had a few break-ins, but no one seems to mess with the cars.
Might have to go with a third-party option.
Have you tried the Ford app? I had a 2017 Escape with a key start, but I could use the app to start it from my phone.
Edit: You might need a specific module installed to make it work.
Not sure how to do it, but I’m here to learn too.
Just get your spouse to start it for you!

Try 12v Solutions. I put one in my F150. It works great and only took me about 20 minutes to install and set up. I just hit the lock button three times, and it starts right up.

Best bet might be a factory remote start kit if you can find one. Keeps your car’s security intact and isn’t as sketchy as aftermarket stuff. You’ll need a factory scan tool to program it, though, so it’s pricier. Maybe around $500-600, but ask your dealer.

You could get an aftermarket alarm with remote start.

I had mine done at the dealership for about $350, and it came with two Ford remotes.
