Has anyone dealt with this issue on their Ford Fusion and how did you solve it

Every time I press the media button, it goes back to the radio for some reason. I’m also unable to connect my phone to Bluetooth.

Does anyone know how to fix this? I tried disconnecting the battery for about 10 minutes and plugging everything back in, but still no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

Try Fuse 32. I have to reset my 2015 and 2012 Fusions with SYNC 1/1.1 often for this problem. It’s easier to pull the negative battery cable and make sure to open a door or turn on the headlights to drain any remaining power.

It might be a hardware issue with the APIM, they can fail, but I’ve done the battery cable every 6-9 months for 9 years on each car and managed to get back BT audio.

There’s no soft reset for SYNC with MyFord, just a Master Reset, which you might not be able to access if it doesn’t recognize the APIM. On my 2012, I can still get Line In to work, so I use other methods to play music.

Since your radio works fine (the ACM) but the SYNC module (APIM) doesn’t, try the fuse for it (32). Also, let me know what year it is, but it should be the same as my 2015.

I’ll give it a try. Thank you

I just pulled fuse 32, but unfortunately, SYNC still doesn’t work. It might be the SYNC module.

@Piper
I’ll try disconnecting the negative and draining the battery with the headlights on. Thank you for the suggestion.

Have you thought about resetting SYNC? You can find it in the system settings.

For me to do that, I need to get into the media. It won’t let me for some reason. If you have another way to do it, please let me know.

@Faithjones
That’s the worst when you can’t get into the menu for the SYNC reboot. You might need to try the fuse or battery cable. That works for me.

Yeah, it’s frustrating. I tried both pulling the fuse and disconnecting the battery. But still, no luck. I’ll try disconnecting the battery again tomorrow.

Have you tried this method?

  1. Press and hold the Seek up and Audio Unit Power buttons until the screen goes black

  2. Wait three minutes for the system to reset

  3. Press the Audio Unit Power button to turn it back on

@Lyle
Thanks for the suggestion. When you say seek up, do you mean the media button? And when you mention audio unit power, are you talking about the phone button? If you could clarify, that would be helpful.

@Faithjones

@Lyle
Got it. I’ll give that a try.

@Lyle
Sadly, that didn’t work. Thanks for the suggestion.

@Lyle
I pulled fuse 33 and put it back, but that didn’t help either.

It’s not just about putting it back. You need to check if it’s faulty first.

I checked it. I even put a brand new 20 amp fuse in, but it still didn’t work.

I’m having the same issue with my 2015 Fusion. Does anyone know if upgrading SYNC1 to the newer v4.6 helps? Also, if it is the APIM module, can that be changed easily to fix this? I think it has to be programmed at a Ford dealer, right?
