GT vs EcoBoost: Which Mustang should I choose?

GT vs EcoBoost: Which Mustang should I go for?

Last October, I leveled up from my 2019 EcoBoost to the 2022 GT, and here’s my take on both. First off, the EcoBoost will never sound like a GT, so stop trying. For those outside the community who say, “You should’ve bought the GT instead of an EcoBoost,” kindly mind your own business.

Handling:
The GT feels heavy, grounded, and stable, like nothing can move it, while the EcoBoost, being 300-400 pounds lighter, feels much more agile. Driving the EcoBoost was more fun on corners, almost like a track car, whereas the GT is more of a drag car. I feel more responsible driving the GT simply because of the power it offers — “with great power comes great responsibility.”

Pricing:
My 2019 EcoBoost with some extras cost around $26-27k, about half the price of a GT. The GT starts at $32k and goes up, not to mention higher insurance and fuel costs. I paid half as much in insurance for my EcoBoost, so get an insurance estimate before deciding. If you’re on a budget, don’t feel bad going for the EcoBoost — it’s still a blast. If you can afford it, go for the GT.

MPG:
No surprise, the EcoBoost wins here. After some mods, I was getting around 22-24 MPG and 320-330 miles per tank with my EcoBoost. The GT? It’s a gas guzzler at 17.5 MPG with around 220 miles per tank, but man, that rumble keeps me smiling.

Driving Experience:
Both cars were automatics. The EcoBoost sometimes had a jerky transmission, but the GT handles smoother shifts. The GT’s power is always ready, while the EcoBoost had a slight turbo lag.

While the EcoBoost will always have a special place in my heart, I can’t imagine driving anything but the GT now. Let me know your thoughts on these two models!

My Mods:

  • 2019 EcoBoost: Strut tower brace, K&N drop-in filter, MBRP Race catback, catch can
  • 2022 GT: Strut tower brace, K&N drop-in filter (stock intake), catch can, stock exhaust for now.

Where do people get the nonsense that the GT is 300-400lbs heavier than the EcoBoost?

The Ford spec sheet indicates that the base 2.3 EcoBoost is 300 pounds lighter than the GT.

241 @DolphGabbana, yeah brother

With a quick search, you can find the answer yourself, but I’m happy to help . On paper, the curb weight for the EcoBoost is 3,511 lbs, while the GT weighs 3,752 lbs. This gives a difference of 241 lbs, assuming you’re looking at a brand-new stock model. If you’re considering a used car, the weight can vary. You’ll need to factor in the weight of any modifications, the rims (whether they’re light or heavy), and any engine upgrades. That’s why the estimate I provided might change.

Now you’ve added even more confusion.

The weight difference was even smaller in earlier models; for example, the 2018 EcoBoost is 170 lbs lighter.

The main point is that 241 lbs is not the same as 400 lbs.

Do engine mods really weigh more? And don’t EcoBoost owners also swap out their wheels?

Oh, they don’t? I didn’t realize you could speak for all EcoBoost owners who don’t make modifications. Impressive.

You obviously can’t read.

So now you’re just sharing images. Great. Thanks for the detailed comparison of GT vs. EcoBoost Mustangs.

Gatekeeper? You mean stupid-spreader preventer.

You come across as a whiny child.

And it seems like you believe 241 is equal to 400.

Yeah, it’s more like 150-200. Anything beyond that seems to be just someone’s imagination.

With all the mods on my GT, the curb weight is just over 6,800 pounds. The stereo system sounds amazing.
