I feel like the Fusion was pretty popular… so why did Ford just eliminate it? Not even an ‘electric-only’ version, just gone. I saw a video showing a 2023 model at a car show, but I don’t think those were ever released. Can anyone help me out? Do you think we’ll ever see another internal combustion engine Ford Fusion? I really like my 2016, but it won’t last forever.
It’s because people don’t want sedans anymore. Soccer moms, for example, prefer SUVs but end up buying crossovers since they’re more affordable. The Fusion will definitely be missed. And don’t even get me started on the new ‘Mustang,’ it’s a mess.
@Cory
Well, I’m not a soccer mom, and I love my Fusion! I just want an upgrade… wish they’d bring it back .

Try finding a low-mileage 2019 or 2020 to keep you going for a few more years. I have a 2019, and I’ll definitely miss it when the time comes to let it go. Hopefully, that won’t be for another 200,000 miles, though!

At least you have Sync 3 with CarPlay! I’m stuck with Sync 2, and upgrading to Sync 3 could cost me around $1500!

If you’re handy and have the bigger infotainment screen, you can upgrade for cheaper. I did mine and only had to pay for the programming since I wasn’t familiar with that part. The whole thing cost me about $600-$800—$600 for the parts and programming, and $200 to fix wiring the previous owner messed up.
@WilliamsMia
I’ve seen that if you swap out the USB/SD hub with a genuine Ford part, you can upgrade to Sync 3. Is that true? When you did yours, did you lose the built-in maps on Sync and only get directions through CarPlay?
@Luke
I bought my Fusion used, and it had the navigation upgrade, but no active subscription. So I didn’t really use Sync maps. The head unit I bought for the upgrade felt different, more responsive than Sync 2. Also, when using Google Maps on Android Auto, directions show up on the navigation tab next to the speedometer. I’m not sure how that works with CarPlay, but Google or Apple Maps should work. The only issue I’ve had is when using a wireless adapter—it can be glitchy if there are signal jammers nearby, but the hardwired connection works perfectly.
@WilliamsMia
I’ve been wondering, how much extra data does using Android Auto for directions use?

Not a ton. I use about an extra 2 GB with Android Auto, but I use it for everything—traffic, streaming music, calls, and texts. I have an unlimited plan, so it works for me.
@WilliamsMia
That’s good to know! I’ll keep that in mind when I upgrade. I’ll let you know how it goes!

You could try buying an aftermarket system from someone on Facebook or Amazon. They have those tablet-style screens.
@Sophie
I’ve seen those, but the really good ones seem to cost around $1500. I’m just sad they don’t make cars like this anymore… my Fusion still has the original brakes after 9 years!

You can upgrade from Sync 2 to Sync 3 with a kit from eBay for around $400-$500. I did it on my 2016 about two years ago, and it’s worked perfectly.
@Kai
Thanks! Do you know of a specific seller or link? Does it come pre-programmed for things like climate control and the latest Sync 3 version?

The seller I bought from isn’t listed anymore, but this one looks identical. You just provide your car’s year, model, trim, and VIN, and it comes pre-programmed. This version has two USB-A ports, but there are options with one USB-A and one USB-C port too.
The Fusion continued as the Ford Mondeo in overseas markets after it was discontinued in the U.S.

Can you send me one? Does it have Sync 4 with wireless Apple CarPlay?
@Malachi
Thanks!
