Hey everyone, I parked my car yesterday, and when I started it up today, the check engine light was on right away. I don’t have an OBD2 scanner, so I’m taking it to a mechanic to get the codes checked. Just wanted to ask what might cause this so I can keep an eye out for future problems. Thanks!
There can be tons of reasons for the check engine light to pop on. Lots of auto parts shops will scan it for free, or they might have a loaner tool you can borrow to check the codes yourself. Sometimes the codes don’t directly tell you what’s wrong, so it might take a bit of troubleshooting. If you get the scan, post the fault codes (not just the description), and we can try to help you figure it out.
@Dempsey
Thanks! I’ll get it scanned tomorrow and share what I find.
@Ty
Yeah, it was driving fine today, but I’ll get the codes checked tomorrow. I have a feeling it might be bad fuel… I’m in a country in Europe where the fuel quality isn’t always the best, and I had a similar issue with my old diesel Ford.
@Ty
Yeah, hopefully it’s nothing major. I don’t really want to go through the hassle of importing parts from the US.
@Ty
Got my hands on an OBD2 scanner and here’s what I found:
