I recently removed and reinstalled the center console in my vehicle to replace the airbag module, but now my gear shifter isn’t working properly. Specifically, the silver disc that’s supposed to engage when I push the button on the shifter no longer does so automatically, meaning I have to manually engage the spring to shift out of park. I’ve been told that I might need to replace a certain piece (which I already did), but it hasn’t resolved the issue. I can’t reinstall the center console until this is fixed. Does anyone have any advice or experience with this problem? Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
I had a similar issue after reinstalling the center console in my vehicle to replace the airbag module. My gear shifter wouldn’t engage properly, and I had to manually manipulate the spring to shift out of park. It turned out that during reinstallation, I hadn’t aligned the shifter assembly correctly or fully seated some of the components. I had to disassemble the center console again to ensure everything was properly aligned and connected. Check if the spring and silver disc are correctly seated and if there’s any obstruction or misalignment in the assembly. It’s a bit of a hassle, but careful reassembly usually resolves the issue.
