I’m looking to buy my first truck at 17 before I leave for college, and I’m trying to keep the price under $25,000. I have three trucks in mind and wanted to reach out to see what might be the best choice in terms of fun and practicality.

Maybe you should be looking at a Toyota Camry for college instead.
Why do you say that?
I agree with this suggestion. If you’re just starting out, having a car that’s cheap to run is a big benefit. Big trucks can cost a lot of money for every mile you drive. When your car is affordable, it opens up more options for you. You can focus more on your studies instead of truck repairs. Plus, if you work part-time, you’ll save a lot of money on fuel. That means more job options, and when you graduate, you’ll have more flexibility with commuting.
I switched from an F-250 to a Corolla in college, and it was a huge improvement. But if money isn’t an issue, I’d suggest going with the '11-'16 6.2. The 5.4 engine is weak, and the 6.8L is only useful for hauling heavy stuff. But still, campus parking is a nightmare.

Just get a 5.0 F150, it’s a solid choice.
I’ve looked at the 250 from those years, and they seem like better deals for the price. The 150s are just too expensive, and I don’t really like the look of them.
@BrianCopeland
A super duty isn’t a good option for college. They look cool and are big, but trust me, get a Honda, Toyota, or even an old Buick. Spending $25K on a truck before college isn’t smart and will hurt you financially later.
Why do you need a heavy-duty truck for college? Are you hauling trailers for your classes? That’s what those trucks are for… It makes sense to get a used Toyota truck with the budget you’re mentioning. A smart choice.
@August
I don’t need to haul anything that requires a heavy-duty truck. I just prefer the size and look of the 2500s. I also like the space in the cabs.

Well, sure, but a smart person would get a Toyota. But if you’re really set on a heavy-duty truck for the looks, go ahead. Take care, kiddo.
@August
Smart people drive Tacomas? You know who else drives them? Boring people. You get bad interiors, poor mileage, and everyone always asks for too much money for them.

I had a Tacoma until I needed a super duty. I was getting 22 miles to the gallon with my Tacoma and had zero problems. But with a super duty, I’ve had more issues, like a wiring harness coming loose once. Tacomas sell for a lot because they’re good. Listen to people who’ve driven both and come back when you’re not using the truck as an ego booster.
