Ever driven over frozen water thinking it’s safe?

Don’t drive through deep puddles that are frozen over even if they look solid… mine had about 3 or 4 inches of ice and still caused some real damage. Lesson learned the hard way.

Where did you get the replacement part from?

I got it from FordPartsGiant.com

Part number: CL3Z-8200-EA
It’s the front grille for the radiator. Freight part too.

Why does it matter that you drove through it?

Because it cost me $1400 in damage. That puddle wasn’t worth it.

That’s insanely expensive for just a grille.

@Logan
Yeah, these parts cost way more than regular car stuff. I’ve worked on cheaper cars before. For this one, the plastic piece that holds the seat switch is $50, and just the mirror glass with heating and auto-dimming is $350.

@Lane
It’s crazy but we chose Raptors. You pay a lot to keep them in shape.

Yeah, right after fixing it I went for a ride in the desert near town… I don’t think anything else could handle flying at 100 mph on those dirt roads like this truck can.

Did you have to move the camera and those three little lights too?

@Judith
Yep. Also had to move the little spray nozzle that cleans the camera. At least the metal bar across the bottom came with the new grille.

Was it hard to do the swap?

@Layla
Not too bad. Mine’s a 2013 so I just took my time and tried not to snap old plastic clips and rivets — desert heat makes them crack easy. The marker lights used 8mm nuts, grille bolts were 10mm, and the camera was held in with torx screws. It’s all plastic so you’ve gotta be gentle and not overtighten anything.

@Lane
Those tiny plastic studs on the lights are always the worst part for me.

That makes me feel sick… can’t believe how pricey it is.

@Indigo
That’s why I said I learned my lesson. Either get a grille guard or avoid smashing into stuff.

I’ve got a full grille guard because deer are always jumping out around here. I’m saving this story as a reminder that I made the right call.

@Indigo
Once I barely missed hitting a cow at 70… only sideswiped it. I’m glad this truck can handle itself well.

Tasca and a few other places sell it for around $945 though.

That’s how you really learn, huh?
