Did I make a mistake getting rid of my old car?

That 2002 looks amazing

It really was a great car while I had it. I bought it in good condition and kept it that way, but when the timing chain started failing, I just couldn’t justify the cost of fixing it. Ended up taking a loan for a new one instead.

@Hendrix
The timing chain on the V6? That’s pretty rare

Yeah, I’ve seen plenty of V6 Escapes with over 400,000 km on the original timing chain without issues.

As someone who also had one, I’m happy for you. You did good!

I really miss my ‘05 Escape

I love my 2017 2.0Ti AWD. It’s a blast to drive in the snow up here in Canada. Hope you enjoy yours .

As a first-gen owner, I feel your pain.

Yeah, I wouldn’t trade my first-gen for any newer model.

You gave up the classic boxy look for a round design… why?

I know… I wasn’t too thrilled about that either.

Man, that’s a downgrade. You should’ve just upgraded the old one with some modern features.

That ‘02 had at least another 200k in it with a little care.

Yeah, but it needed a $3k+ repair.

What engine is in the 2018? Did you check out the coolant intrusion issues those have?

@Bellamy
And don’t forget, the turbos on those are known to fail. I had to replace one, and it was a nightmare. First-gen V6 is way more reliable.

Mine started leaking oil, and I didn’t even notice until I did an oil change and only one quart drained out.

I had a red 2007 Escape and loved it. It finally gave out last year, so now I have a Pepsi blue 2017. So far, so good .

I’d take the 2002 over the 2018 any day. It’s cheaper to maintain and more reliable. The only thing the 2018 does better is fuel economy, but you’re gonna face plenty of $3k+ repairs with it. Sorry, man.
