I’m seeing an issue with my electric parking brake, what does this mean? Will it affect my brakes? Is it safe to drive?
This happened to me. The rear passenger caliper was stuck on and dragging. I had just replaced the pads and rotors. There’s a service mode for these that you need to be in or they won’t work properly during pad replacements.
@Sean
Ford replaced a caliper and bled my brakes just under three weeks ago, could it be related?
@Sean
Should I reset the system to fix it?

If the dealership is decent, they could fix it for you. It doesn’t hurt to ask them, especially since it’s related to the work they just did.

You can try putting it into brake maintenance mode and then taking it back out. If it still drags, it might be worth taking it back to Ford and telling them you didn’t have this issue before they worked on it.
@Sean
That happened with my girlfriend’s 2017 SE after I changed the pads and rotors. The rear passenger caliper melted the pads into the rotors.

The mechanic who changed mine called me about it. Apparently, the rear passenger caliper has a design flaw. It will leak brake fluid when it fails. He said he’d only seen this happen on that wheel.
It happened with my electric park brake on a 13 Fusion. Sometimes the switch would stick in the middle, but just moving it with my finger would fix it.
The parking brake isn’t the same as your driving brakes, so you can still drive. Just listen for any loud noises or if a wheel feels stuck. If something sounds off, call for a tow.

I drove home, didn’t hear anything strange and my brakes worked fine.
@Loveness
Glad to hear that .

It’s probably just a software misconfiguration with the parking brake. This happened to me after I changed the pads.

It’s worth a try, it might work.

There was a recall for a parking brake issue a while back. I’m not sure if this is related but you might want to look into it.

I put the car in park and turned it off for a few minutes with the radio on, then I opened the door and the warning came up.
It’s likely because they didn’t release the maintenance mode before returning the car to you. Try following the process of putting it in service mode and taking it back out to see if that fixes it. If not, there could be an issue with the electrical connector on the rear brake caliper.
Yes, but you can’t stop driving, right?

My brakes won’t work, will they?
