Anyone had issues with oil consumption in 2020 V8 F150? Any solutions?

I’ve been dealing with a possible oil consumption problem with our 2020 F150 for years now. We bought it new in March 2020, and since then, we’ve taken it to a dealer who suspected the issue in 2021. They had us come back multiple times for oil checks and eventually gave us the service bulletin to fix the dipstick issue. We switched dealerships because we weren’t getting anywhere, and the new dealership asked us to start from scratch. Despite regular oil changes, they still suspect an issue. The most recent check showed the oil level fine at 1,000 miles, but 2,000 miles later, it was down by 2 quarts. They now want us to come back every 300 miles to check. The only issue is that the one person who can properly check the oil isn’t available on Saturdays. Our warranty runs out in March (just under 50k miles). Has anyone dealt with this? What can we do? The only response from Ford was “Do you want to file a complaint?” The dealership is clearly dragging it out until the warranty ends. Also, if you’ve had your engine replaced, how’s it functioning now? We have a friend in the car repair business who refuses to work on this engine due to a “100% fail rate,” and I’m worried about getting a replacement that has the same issues.

They’re not stringing you along, they’re trying to perform an oil consumption test, which takes time. Only the shop foreman can do these tests.

They’ve been doing this oil consumption test for 4 years, but it feels like they just keep moving the goalposts.

Yeah, have them perform the TSB. Part of the TSB includes a PCM software update to adjust throttle plate movement on deceleration, which prevents the engine from sucking oil and burning it. Honestly, the TSB fixes about 90-95% of cases I’ve worked on.

@STEEVE
We had the TSB done a while ago, but it didn’t seem to help. We lost a lot of oil over just 2,000 miles. We want to follow all protocols to get them to fix the problem, but at some point, enough is enough. They’ve been checking the oil regularly for 4 years now.

@BumpyJohnson
Did they 100% perform the PCM update? What’s your VIN? I can check what was done (assuming it was under warranty).

There’s a TSB for a PCM update and a longer dipstick. Honestly, this is a known issue. Just change the oil every 3,000 miles instead of 5,000.

If it’s the 5.0 engine, the dipstick is too short. With the 8 1/2 liter oil pan, they needed a longer dipstick. I had mine replaced in May.
