Anyone else using their Lightning to power homes after Hurricane Helene?

Wait, people are actually using these trucks to haul stuff? That’s new!

@Layne
I pulled out a small tree stump with mine. It was surprisingly quiet, no engine noise, just a squeal from the tires and the stump was out.

Whatever you do, never tell your wife you were right about these trucks!

This is my current mood:

I powered three of my neighbors’ fridges for over a day with my Lightning after the hurricane. Best truck ever!

I charged my truck at the Electrify America station in Augusta today. While I was there, a lady told me her husband was using their Lightning to power stuff at their house. When I left, most restaurants were still closed and there was a long line for gas, but the EV charger worked fine. It’s wild seeing gas stations struggling while EV chargers are still up and running.

@Trinity
That station is likely powered by the same grid as Walmart, which gets priority in outages because it’s considered essential.

Looks like the future is here. Instead of fixing the grid, we’re moving toward local storage and generation. EVs powering homes is just the beginning.

Vehicle-to-grid tech would make a huge difference right now.

@Crew
That’s probably the next step, but we’ll need a good system to prevent power from flowing back into the grid when it’s down.

This is a great reason to have at least one EV in every home: built-in backup power.

Honestly, that was one of the biggest reasons I bought my Lightning. We don’t get many power outages, but when we do, it’s a pain. Having a portable generator didn’t make sense, and the thought of filling it up with gas in the snow? No thanks. The Lightning does everything my old truck did and more, plus I’ve got backup power when I need it.

I prefer the good old dinosaur juice from deep in the earth, as nature intended.

There are brands like Ecoflow and Bluetti that make portable solar setups, but they usually only have about 2-4 kWh of capacity unless you spend a lot.
