Anyone else using dashcams? What setup do you guys recommend?

Looking to get a dashcam setup for my car. What brands or models are you all using? And does anyone have experiences good or bad?

Bro, you’re running the best dash cam already. A Taco Bell Chalupa 8k ultra HD, 240FPS. That thing is an absolute unit dude.

@Dane
Haha, it’s only got an 8KB SD card, like those tiny cheese cups we get :rofl:

Seems like everyone online talks about dash cams, but I don’t know anyone who even uses one. Is it just a city thing or what? I’m out here in the rural Midwest.

Insurance scams are common in busy areas. Dash cams are cheap protection against that.

@Jessie
Yeah, that actually makes a lot of sense.

@Jessie
I just talked with my insurance agent, and she said I should get one, but apparently, Virginia hands out tickets for ones with radar detectors :person_shrugging:

Wait, they make dash cams with radar detectors? I need to look this up.

@Jessie
I know, right? If I find one, I’ll let you know!

I’m in rural Appalachia. All my dashcam would capture are deer running across the road.

@varlerie
Hey, at least you’d have proof the deer was jaywalking! :joy:

I live in a semi-rural area but often drive through Detroit for work, so thinking it might be useful.

Man, get one. My mom had a near-fatal accident, and with no witnesses, it dragged on for years in court. A dashcam would’ve ended it immediately. We ended up getting a payout but only after lawyer fees and years of stress. Totally worth the $100 to avoid that nightmare.

I’m in rural Wisconsin, finally got one as a young driver. Haven’t needed it yet, but feel better having it.

I just use an old phone with a dashcam app.

Using a Vantrue front and rear setup here in Texas! It’s great, and I wired it to the fuse box so it records even when the truck’s off if there’s movement. It’s paid for itself when a guy hit me and just handed me cash to avoid insurance.

@Barbara
How’s the video quality, especially at night? I’ve read that a lot of cameras struggle with that.

It’s pretty solid at night! I can read plates. Look up some demo videos if you’re curious.

@Barbara
Big fan of it too. I got the 3-cam kit, and it’s been worth it.

I have the Viofo A229.
