Got myself a first-gen V10… who else loves these engines?

My uncle had a 2002 Excursion V10 from almost new till 2021 or so. He loved that thing more than anything, but it got 11 mpg whether towing his 32’ camper or coasting downhill. It made it to 350k miles without major issues, but Midwest rust got it in the end. He swapped to a 2021 F250 7.3L gas, but he still complains about missing the Excursion.

I miss mine too. If I had the cash, I’d turn my ‘19 F350 into a modern Excursion. But those conversions are crazy expensive now, especially the newer ones.
My grandpa had one for years. Pulled anything you hooked up to it. Great truck but terrible on gas.
I own two V10s—a 2000 F250 with 130k miles and an ‘08 F450 with 78k. They can’t pass a gas station, but they get the job done. I’m keeping both running as long as I can. They’re cheaper to work on than my ‘02 F350 7.3.
Check out my V10. It’s been with me through thick and thin.

How many miles on it now?

Wow, that’s impressive!

Regular maintenance keeps these trucks running forever.

Had an Excursion with the V10 a few years back. It was a beast, pulled everything I needed, but the fuel cost was killer. Swapped for a diesel, and now I’m spending a fortune on maintenance. Almost wish I’d stuck with the V10, even with the occasional spark plug issues.

Yeah, spark plug problems seem common in all the Triton engines. My brother’s had that issue with his 5.4.

That’s one thing I love about the V10—cheap to maintain. And yep, the 2-valve engines have that blowout problem, while the 3-valve ones have their own issues. Not looking forward to changing those plugs!

It’s a simple fix, though. I maintain a fleet of about 15 V10s, all with high miles, and they just keep going. Sure, I’ve done my share of plug repairs, but they’re tough trucks.

Totally, I’m not hating on them. Just saying that’s the only downside I’ve found other than the gas. Easy fix with a helicoil kit, and you’re back on the road.

Yeah, no offense taken! They’re great. I just like joining in because these trucks get a lot of hate, but they’re solid. We abuse ours daily, and they still run like champs.

How can I learn more about this V10? I’m not from the US.

Just the engine name, and I’ll look it up on Wikipedia!
