Planning to take it in soon, but I was curious if anyone else has been having rust problems. Could really use some input here.
I do car detailing, and it might not be actual rust from the car. Dust, especially iron particles, tends to build up and stick to the back of cars. Those iron particles can collect around emblems and badges pretty easily. Just something to consider.
@Wylie
Yeah, that actually makes sense. Thanks for the tip.
@Lillian
I figured as much. Not really looking forward to pulling it off just to find out what’s going on under there though.

Could be iron deposits. I’ve seen similar stuff on other cars, but maybe not as bad as what you’re describing.
@Carly
Yeah, someone mentioned it could just be a sticker issue. I’ll let you know what they say once I get it checked out.

Are you positive it’s rust and not just some grime that’s stuck there?
@Lillian
Honestly, not 100% sure. Didn’t exactly send a sample to a lab. It just looks like rust creeping out from under the emblem, lol.
@Blake
Appreciate it. I didn’t really want to pry it off myself. Feels like something the car maker should probably look into if it’s a common issue.

You can try just cleaning around it with a good cleaner. But definitely don’t try pulling it off yourself unless you’ve got the right tools. It usually needs a heat gun and a lot of patience to get it off without breaking it since there’s so much glue.
Just a heads up though, it’s possible there’s rust happening inside the hatch. There’s an issue some folks have mentioned where water collects in the lift gate when it rains. If you really want to check, you can pop off the trim pieces inside the hatch to see the backside of the logo area.
@Blake
How does it look when it’s lit up? Did you wire it to the lights?

I think it looks great. You wire it into the brake lights and the reverse light. So it’s red when your headlights are on, bright red when you brake, and white in reverse.
Here’s a link if you’ve got $300 and some time to install it: Mustang Mach E GT Lit Emblem V2 (Back in stock by 3.14.2025) – EV-Vida
@Blake
That’s actually pretty cool. Thanks for sharing. Looks like if you skip the reverse feature, it’s not too hard to install either.

Yeah, the reverse part is cool though. And honestly, it’s not that much more effort. Probably just an extra hour or so.
Just a thought… emblems are usually just stuck on, not cut into the car. I’d be surprised if it’s real rust unless something else on your vehicle is also rusting.
Maybe try an alcohol wipe or just wash it really well.

Haha, yeah, I did that and it just came back. Frustrating.
