Thinking about going for a used truck, but I’m worried about what some of these trucks might have gone through. Spending 100k on a brand new one is just out of the question for me.
If this topic has come up a bunch, my bad. I know I forget to search sometimes!
Most of the Raptors out there haven’t seen any real off-roading, just a lot of city driving. Sure, a few have been driven hard, but you can still find plenty of well-maintained used ones that are worth it.
@Alton
Yeah, that’s what I’m thinking too. But the prices are still wild, and it’s a bit scary to take a chance with the potential problems. Who knows when the market will calm down?
If you’re considering a used Raptor, and you’re not in California, there are some decent extended warranty plans you can check out from places like Lombard or Zeigler.
These trucks are great, but your budget will really decide what’s best. If you go used, either get one that already has an extended warranty or plan on spending extra for one. Also think about how you plan to use it: any serious off-roading or just light trails? You can find a decent gen 2 with low miles for $40-50k or pay a bit more for one with extras. If you’ve got a bigger budget, there are even a few gen 3 models under 70k.
The Gen 1 is definitely worth it if you’re looking for reliability. The EcoBoost engines, though, can be hit or miss, which is why the used prices are pretty similar.
