I recently bought a used 2016 Focus with 127k miles on it. I noticed the transmission slipping when I first test drove it, but I thought it was just me pulling out awkwardly. Now, I’m noticing it again when I pull out of the driveway. I’m guessing it has something to do with the DCT, but I’m not sure if it’s low fluid or if replacing the clutch would help. It only slips when pulling out and seems to stutter slightly when going from 1st to 2nd gear. Any advice on how to fix it or if this is a common issue with the DCT?
It’s probably the clutches. The transmission adjusts to how you drive, so try driving it a bit harder to see if the issue goes away. I drove mine aggressively for six years and never had a problem before I traded it in.
@Zion
I know I’m in trouble, but what can I do? I can’t just trade it back in now…
@Zion
You could also try unplugging the battery for five minutes to reset the system.
You made a mistake buying a car with the DPS6. You’re in trouble now.

It’s so frustrating, I traded in my 2013 Edge because the water pump went out. That repair was going to cost $9000!

Who told you the water pump was $9000? That sounds too high. At most shops, replacing the water pump and timing chain on a V6 would cost around $4000. Sounds like the dealership was trying to avoid the work.

Yeah, that was what the dealership quoted. Other shops said it would be around $4500-$5000.

Ugh, that’s rough…

No lie, that’s what I was quoted. The engine has to be pulled out.

That price seems inflated. It’s typically about $2500 for that kind of work, though it still sucks. Good luck getting rid of it, some dealers won’t even take these cars as trade-ins anymore because of their reputation.

I do still owe on it, but I’m just going to have my husband, who’s a mechanic, help me fix it. We’ll service it and see what happens. The slip isn’t too bad, it just slightly slips when shifting from 1st to 2nd.
You bought a DCT Focus, that’s your problem. You should just trade it back in.

I literally can’t. I traded my other car for this one…

That issue is just going to keep happening over and over. The transmission is known for failing.

Yeah, it is what it is at this point.
Seems like you downgraded.
I had a 2014 Focus, it was at the dealership every 25k miles for transmission repairs. The last repair they told me it wouldn’t be covered anymore. Sold it the next week. Great car, great mileage, but I should’ve gotten the manual. You might want to look into the class action lawsuits for this issue.
Hey, I have a 2016 Focus with 160k miles and I haven’t had any slipping problems. If you get it checked out and repaired with the right software updates, it should last you a while.

I’m actually a girl, haha, but yeah I’m already looking into getting it repaired. It doesn’t seem like an expensive fix.
