Probably my favorite part about it tbh. Do they have issues down the road. I’m looking forward to them in the summer.

Any kin of maintenance history. Start by changing ALL fluids. The oil cooler walls are thin. Sometimes puts oil into the coolant

Rust along the rockers is brutal with those years

Make sure the 100k mi service has been done, rear shocks will need rebuild/replace. If you can buy an extended warranty buy it. As the miles go up, like in any other truck, parts will need to be rebuilt replaced… test the 4wd iwe systems fail commonly, transfer case motor fails etc etc… if you use it as a regular truck its one of the best half ton trucks out there and will last forever, if you use it as a raptor, still one of the best half tons out there, but you will need to be really good about mantain in it

Pretty sure you have 16 spark plugs, they’re expensive as fuck so start stocking up on them. Think mine cost $17 each last time. The sparks are super skinny so make sure to change them when the factory calls for it. If you leave them too long they’ll break when you wrench them out.

@Dante
I had to look that one up because when I heard 16 spark plugs my jaw dropped. And yeah, you’re right. 16 of those suckers. Here’s hoping they were done at least once in the life of the truck. Snapping a plug in half isn’t on my bingo card this year.

6.2 is amazing, most mechanics will agree. Got mine at 160k without blinking. It’s at 175k now and I’d drive it across the country without hesitation. I drove it 8 hours, beat the shit out of it in the sand then drove it back in the 15k I’ve had it.

Just be ready to replace routine things, it’s not a new truck.

I’ve done

Plugs
Injectors
Starter
Fuel pump
All fluids
Shocks
Water pump
Radiator
IWE
Evap module
Fuse 27 relo

All proactively for longevity. Runs like a top and will for a while. If there’s no rust on the one you’re looking at I’d say go for it

If you buy it I have an extra set of factory Fox Gen 1 rear shocks, leaf springs and a front skid plate.
Been sitting in garage for four years off a 2014 with low miles that did a full suspension swap/upgrade.

@StellarScribe
If I go through with it and I can’t get the dealership to change them, you can expect a DM from me. I really appreciate that offer.

I mis read and thought you said you were putting in a lift, as long as you don’t do that they’re great trucks. I’ve had my 2013 from 69k miles and am sitting around 120k myself. No plans on getting anything else, I just rebuilt allot of the moving pieces. I’ve seen multiple 6.2s make it to 250+ with ease.

@Zeke
My bad, typo. Already fixed it.
Definitely won’t be putting in a lift. It will stay stock.
Glad to hear they do well at higher mileage, appreciate it.

260k on a ‘13, bought it off the truck the day it arrived new. I’ve had only three things go wrong outside of what I would consider normal wear.

Almost immediately the windshield wipers started acting weird, they’d shut off mid wipe and then start working again later. Never figured out what it was but it still happens from time to time.

Not long after that it started burning up the fuel pump fuse. Did the fuse relocation and haven’t had any problems since.

The transmission lead frame went bad at 180k and had to be replaced.

That’s it! The motor runs excellent, there’s no hesitation or rough idling. Been the most reliable truck I’ve ever owned. I had the shocks rebuilt twice by TSW. Once at 110k and again 230. Put a new OEM steering wheel on last year as the original had worn pretty bad, the drivers seat is a little worn but I’ve got a new cover and cushions to put on when I’m in the mood. Cleaned the throttle body a few times along the way as well. These really are fantastic trucks. I also have a second gen and while I love the look and the nicer interior it’s nowhere near the OG in terms of reliability.

I have a low mile 2010 6.2. Only owned a short time but damn is it great. Great for road trips, grocery trips, and hitting unpaved roads at speed

Bought mine a month ago at 160K miles, iv only had/driven it for a few weeks but I’ll give what insight I can. It was a one owner truck and this guy took very good care of it. Iv got all the service records and it was comforting to see a lot of the trucks that were on the market were above 200K miles (highest millage one I found was 325K miles). I absolutely love the truck, only thing I did find was a slight coolant leak (still need to investigate where it’s coming from). Like others have said these are solid trucks especially if they’re taken care of. Good luck with your purchase!

Gonna need new or rebuild rear shocks to ride decent. That’s 1K for a set or $400 for rebuild if someone is around that can do it. Easy enough to install on your own.

Make sure the fuel pump fuse relocation has been done. Mine burnt out and somehow took the pcm out with it. Took the shop weeks/months to figure it out. I’ve had one valve spring break, other than that it’s been tires, fluids, new shocks in the 120k I’ve had it (bought in 2013 new)
