My 1985 Ford Bronco Crank’s but it won’t start, what could be the issue with it?
Hi, welcome to ford enclave. My name is FordFanaticFrank, and I have 24 years of experience in motor vehicle repair. I’ll be helping you with your issue. Please be patient as I might take a few minutes to respond while diagnosing your problem. Can I know who I’m speaking with today?
Hello, this is Oliver James.
The Bronco hasn’t started in over 5 years. I bought it a couple of months ago.
Hi Oliver James. Was the vehicle sitting unused for those 5 years?
Unfortunately the Ford was not in use for those 5 years.
Have you noticed any unusual noises or issues with the engine when trying to start it?
I checked the video. Have you tested the fuel pressure?
I need a new fuel pump, but shouldn’t it at least start briefly with starter fluid?
Can you hear the fuel pump working when you turn the ignition key to the ON position?
No, I don’t hear it. There is zero fuel pressure.
Have you checked if the fuel filter is clogged?
I replaced the fuel filter recently.
That is odd. Have you checked the ignition system components, like the distributor cap and rotor, for any wear or damage?
I have replaced the cap, rotor, wires, and spark plugs.
What’s the voltage reading on your battery terminals?
It’s around 12.4 volts.
That’s reasonable. Please inspect the wiring for any damage or corrosion.
I haven’t seen any damage so far. Should I check any specific wires?
Check the entire wiring related to the ignition system. Also, look for hidden corrosion. Sometimes corrosion isn’t visible, so try applying anti-corrosion spray to all electrical components, the fuse box, connectors, and battery terminals. This might help.
